The San Francisco 49ers have parted ways with one of their running backs as Brian Robinson Jr. officially signed a contract with the Atlanta Falcons.
Robinson Jr. joined the 49ers ahead of the 2025 season in a trade with the Washington Commanders. However, his season in San Francisco didn’t go as expected.
While the team had a successful season overall, Robinson Jr. was unable to perform at his best. He only had 92 carries for 400 yards and 2 touchdowns, all career lows.
With Christian McCaffrey as the starting running back for the 49ers, Robinson Jr. didn’t have many opportunities to showcase his skills on the field.

His season in San Francisco is considered the biggest failure of his career. Despite having chances to play, he couldn’t make a significant impact.
“I went through a forgettable season in San Francisco, it was the worst season of my career. I had a great time and was happy with the 49ers, but I have to move on to fulfill my career goals. Thank you to the fans, thank you for everything.” Robinson Jr. shared.
Robinson Jr. was a star at Alabama, winning 2 national championships and earning First-Team All-SEC honors. He was expected to shine when entering the NFL.

Despite this, Robinson Jr. had his best season in 2024 with 799 yards and 8 touchdowns, his highest numbers in his career.
After a season as a backup to Christian McCaffrey, Robinson Jr. signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Falcons on March 24, 2026.
