49ers Owner Jed York Submits Plan for $120 Million SAP Performance Facility Overhaul, Governor Gavin Newsom’s Response Leaves 49ers Community Disappointed

Posted Mar 27, 2026

Santa Clara, CA – March 2026. San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has submitted a plan to overhaul the SAP Performance Facility with a $120 million project.

The plan includes adding 80,000 square feet of office space, designed to serve both the football operations and business departments of the team.

The number of parking spaces will also increase from 275 to 435 to meet the growing needs of the team. The expansion will take place on the east side of the SAP Performance Facility.

Although this is a significant step, the plan comes amid the ongoing sale of the 49ers. Fans are understandably concerned about the future of the team.

Jed York shared, “We are committed to investing in the community and the people of this city. This new project will create many jobs and help many people. But perhaps, we will have to wait for the state to approve this plan before we can move forward.”

The plan was submitted in December 2025, with construction expected to begin in the summer of 2026 and complete by fall 2028.

However, Governor Gavin Newsom’s response has left the 49ers community disappointed. He expressed concerns about the cost and practicality of the project.

Governor Newsom raised concerns that investing heavily in sports infrastructure, while the city also needs valuable land for other projects, may not be the most sensible approach.

He added that the community needs clarity from the new owners about the future of the team and other long-term plans for the city.

Newsom’s response has frustrated 49ers fans. They believe rejecting the expansion plan is unfair to the team, especially considering the potential benefits it could bring to the community.

While expanding SAP Performance Facility is necessary to remain competitive, the concerns about the team’s future have left the 49ers community uncertain.

Construction is slated to begin in the summer of 2026. 49ers fans will continue to follow the progress of the project.

They hope these decisions will bring positive changes for the team in the near future and strengthen the 49ers’ position.

The overhaul project will create many job opportunities and contribute to the development of the local community.

If the plan is approved, the SAP Performance Facility will become a more modern facility, serving the team’s operations and the broader sports community.

In the meantime, 49ers fans continue to wait for the state’s response and hope the plan will be approved so the team can proceed.

Experts believe that if this project is completed, it will bring significant benefits not only to the 49ers but also to the entire San Francisco community.

This overhaul plan also demonstrates the 49ers owner’s strong commitment to investing in the team and the community, despite opposition from politicians.

With the next steps in motion, fans hope the project will proceed smoothly and bring positive changes to the team in the upcoming season.

With the appearance of this upgrade project, the team will have an opportunity to grow stronger in the future, while contributing to the development of San Francisco city.

San Francisco 49ers Named Top Landing Spot For $255 Million Eagles Super Bowl MVP QB
San Francisco, California — The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly emerging as the top landing spot for the Philadelphia Eagles’ $255 million Super Bowl MVP quarterback if trade discussions unfold in the coming seasons. According to ESPN, Jalen Hurts could become available if he fails to maintain peak performance in the 2026–27 season. The Eagles’ management, led by GM Howie Roseman, may proactively explore trade options to maximize the quarterback’s value before any further decline. Sheil Kapadia of The Ringer speculated that the Seahawks are also interested in Hurts, but San Francisco’s combination of veteran leadership, organizational stability, and championship aspirations makes the 49ers a more appealing fit. Kapadia noted that 49ers GM John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan could view Hurts as a quarterback who embodies durability, mental toughness, and leadership necessary to guide the team back to contention. He emphasized that San Francisco offers a culture aligned with Hurts’ style and competitive drive. Despite posting 294 completions for 3,224 yards, 25 touchdowns, and six interceptions last season, Hurts’ decision-making under pressure and tendency to tuck and run made the Eagles’ offense more predictable. Analysts argue that San Francisco could provide a stronger supporting cast to maximize his strengths. C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans’ first-round QB, struggled in 2025–26 with 273 completions, 3,041 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. His inconsistent footwork and inability to handle pressure contributed to Houston’s season-ending 28–16 loss to the Patriots. While a blockbuster Hurts–Stroud swap is not imminent, NFL insiders suggest that if both quarterbacks regress or fail to meet expectations, San Francisco is well-positioned to negotiate a high-profile trade. The 49ers’ deep roster, coaching expertise, and championship culture make them the ideal destination for a quarterback of Hurts’ caliber. Fans and analysts are closely monitoring how the Eagles manage Hurts’ contract situation and whether the 49ers can capitalize on a rare opportunity to add a proven Super Bowl-winning quarterback. With San Francisco in the mix, trade speculation has intensified the 2026 offseason and could reshape the NFC competitive landscape for years. The combination of Hurts’ elite talent and the 49ers’ championship infrastructure could become one of the most impactful quarterback acquisitions in recent NFL history.
