Detroit, MI – Detroit Lions have terminated contracts with several players during the NFL free agency period starting March 11, and one of those players is Marcus Davenport, the team’s former cornerback.

Davenport, who has earned about $43 million throughout his career, is still searching for a new home.
Davenport has played decently throughout his career but still has some shortcomings, with a score of 52.4 in the 2025-26 season from Pro Football Focus, ranking 103rd out of 115 qualified defensive ends.
After leaving the Lions, Davenport has faced significant struggles as he still hasn't determined his next destination in his career, while major names in the defensive end market have signed new contracts.
Most recently, on March 27, Davenport shocked all of Detroit by expressing his desire to return to the team. He is willing to do anything just to wear the silver and blue one more season to prove himself.
Davenport said: "The amazing years I spent in Detroit will always be a part of me. If I get the chance to come back, I’ll do everything to prove my worth. Even with a lower salary, I won’t hesitate to give my all to this team, because this is where I belong."
Throughout his career, Davenport has been a key contributor to the Detroit Lions defense. He has had 6 consecutive strong seasons and is one of the notable names in the defensive unit.
Davenport has an impressive pass rush ability, with a total of 32 sacks and 78 tackles throughout his career. He has also contributed a lot in creating opportunities for his teammates.
Even after playing many years with Lions, Davenport still feels that his career with the team is unfinished. He has always considered Detroit the place that helped him grow and develop.
After leaving Lions, Davenport has continuously sought opportunities to join a new team, but there has been no official agreement.
Lions are currently looking for a potential cornerback to add to their defense, and Davenport hopes he can return to this team.
Davenport added: “If I get the chance, I will do everything to help the team win and improve the defense. Detroit will always be home for me, and I’m ready to come back and contribute one more season.”
The fact that Davenport is willing to accept a lower salary to return to the Lions shows his love for the team and commitment to the community.

With Davenport’s support, Lions could significantly improve their defense and continue to compete for a top spot in the league.
Although there has been no official announcement regarding a new contract, Lions fans are eagerly awaiting a positive update from Davenport.
Detroit Lions are continuing to develop their roster and search for the right additions to build a strong team for the upcoming season.
Davenport's story is a testament to his commitment and love for the Detroit Lions, and his return would certainly bring hope to the team and the fans.
Davenport is an exemplary figure of sacrifice and determination, and if he returns to the Lions, it will be a memorable story in the team’s history.
