Grief Engulfs SoFi Stadium: Former Rams DE Passes Away at Age 35, Leaving Unbearable Pain for Los Angeles Fans - The Super Bowl Dream That Never Came True with Rams Can Never Be Realized

Posted Apr 29, 2026

A profound sadness is engulfing SoFi Stadium after the official confirmation that former Los Angeles Rams defensive end Josh Mauro has passed away at the age of 35.

Mauro passed away on April 23, leaving a huge void in the hearts of Rams fans and the broader NFL community.

His family shared an emotional statement on social media, saying Josh took his last breath on this earth and his first breath in heaven.

Mauro joined the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2014. Despite giving his all throughout training camp and preseason games, he was cut before the regular season began and was only kept on the practice squad for a short time.

Although Mauro’s time wearing a Rams uniform was quite short, he is still deeply loved by many Rams fans who always remember his NFL journey.

After leaving Los Angeles, Mauro joined the Arizona Cardinals, where he spent the majority of his career across six impressive seasons. He also played for the New York Giants in 2018 and the Oakland Raiders in 2019 before returning to the Cardinals for the final chapter of his career.

In a total of 80 NFL games, Mauro recorded 130 tackles and 5 sacks, performing consistently as a defensive end.

The 2016 season was the pinnacle of his career, when he started 13 games for the Cardinals and set a personal record with 32 tackles.

Rams fans are still grieving the Super Bowl dream that never became reality — the dream of seeing Mauro help the blue and gold team win a championship.

Today, SoFi Stadium is immersed in sorrow as fans and team leadership come together to recall emotional memories of the former Rams player.

Many former teammates and coaches have sent sincere condolences to Mauro’s family during this incredibly difficult time.

Mauro was known as a hardworking, blue-collar player who always gave everything he had, even though he was not a big star in the league.

A Stanford graduate, he brought professionalism and relentless determination throughout his 8 NFL seasons.

Despite battling numerous injuries and hardships, Mauro maintained his full passion for football until his final moments.

The entire NFL community has united to send warm tributes to the talented former defensive end.

In Los Angeles, although he only wore the Rams uniform for a short time, Mauro still holds a special place in the hearts of the fans.

Even though the Super Bowl dream with the Rams never came true, it will forever remain an inspiration for the next generation of players.

Mauro’s sudden death is a profound reminder of the fragility of life and the value of every single moment on the football field.

Josh Mauro leaves behind a lasting legacy — the image of a quiet warrior with an indomitable spirit — in the hearts of all football fans.

He will forever be remembered by Rams fans, Cardinals fans, and the entire NFL with the deepest respect and sincerest gratitude.

Former Super Bowl Champion and Los Angeles Legend Passes Away at Age 75, Leaving the Entire NFL Community Heartbroken — The Rams Community Mourns and Honors an Irreplaceable Legacy of the Franchise
The Los Angeles Rams released a heartfelt statement honoring Young’s life and legacy, describing him as “a symbol of toughness, humility, and loyalty whose impact extended far beyond football.” Moments after the heartbreaking announcement, thousands of Rams fans flooded social media with emotional tributes, photos, and memories celebrating the legendary tight end’s extraordinary life. Born on February 5, 1951, in Fresno, California, Young quickly became one of the most respected and talented football players of his generation. Standing 6 foot 4 with exceptional athleticism and elite hands, he was widely viewed as one of the most complete tight ends entering professional football. Throughout a remarkable NFL career that lasted more than a decade, Young earned admiration for his toughness, professionalism, leadership, and relentless commitment to the game. However, it was his deep connection with Los Angeles that ultimately became one of the most meaningful chapters of his life and football legacy. Young arrived in Los Angeles during an important era for the Rams organization and quickly became a respected veteran leader inside the locker room environment. Even beyond his athletic prime, he continued bringing discipline, wisdom, and emotional leadership that profoundly influenced younger players throughout the organization. Former teammates often described Young as someone who always represented the spirit and values of the Rams with pride, dignity, and tremendous compassion for others. After retiring from football, Young remained closely connected to the Rams community and continued representing the organization at countless charity and public events. For decades, he quietly devoted much of his personal time and financial resources to helping struggling families, youth mentorship programs, and cancer research initiatives across California. Many Los Angeles residents revealed that Young frequently donated anonymously because he never wanted attention or praise for the countless lives he helped change. A close family friend once shared that Young believed “a man’s true legacy is measured by the number of people he lifts up while nobody is watching.” Former teammates often said Young carried himself with the same humility and compassion in private life that fans admired throughout his football career. One former Rams player emotionally stated, “Charle never cared about fame or headlines. He cared about people, and that is exactly why Los Angeles will never forget him.” Current Rams players and coaches also released emotional tributes honoring a man many viewed as one of the most respected ambassadors in franchise history. The detail that moved the Los Angeles community most deeply emerged hours later when Young’s family confirmed he donated nearly all his remaining wealth to charity. According to relatives, it was a decision he quietly planned years earlier because he wanted his final legacy to continue helping people after his death. Today, Los Angeles is mourning far more than the loss of a football legend because the city has lost a man whose kindness impacted countless lives. Charle Young will forever remain part of Rams history and forever remembered as a man whose legacy transcended football and inspired generations. 🕊️
